Welcome to the Department of Political Science
AKI’s Poona College of Arts, Science &
Commerce
AKI’s Poona College was founded in the year 1970, simultaneously; The Department of Political Science also came into existence. Initially Prof.
Sonawala and Dr. Shaukat Ali ran the Department successfully. After 50 years of
successful completion, now the Department is providing Special Course in
Political Science at UG level.
Department of Political Science has two permanent faculties:
1. Dr. Ahmad Shamshad (Assistant Professor & Head)
2. Mr. Mukhtar Shaikh. (Assistant Professor)
Department of Political Science remains
continuously involved in Teaching Learning Process as well as regularly
organizes, Seminars, Conferences, Guidance and Counselling Talks, Debate Competitions,
Participation in Youth Parliament, Visits to PRI’s of nearby areas, etc.

Intercollegiate Mock Parliament Competition Trophy
Poona College wins
Best Team Performance – First Prize in an Intercollegiate Mock Parliament
Competition organized by H.V. Desai College, Pune. Poona College had to compete
with reputed colleges affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University like Fergusson
College, SP College, Modern College, HPT, Nashik, Abeda Inamdar College, H. V.
Desai College, Pune etc. Total 7
teams have participated in this competition.
Poona College bagged laurels for Best Team, and in individual prize
category, Mr. Hashim Ansari (TYBA) was conferred as Best Orator among all 210
participant members. Miss. Jahan Ara (FYBA) was declared as Best Performer from
Ruling party and Mr. Faizan Tabish (SYBA) declared as Best Performer from
Opposition Party. The entire team of the Poona College constituted of 30
students. The team worked under special guidance and relentless efforts put
forth by Principal Dr. Aftab Anwar Shaikh, Vice-Principal Mr. Moinuddin
Khan, Dr. Ahmad Shamshad, HoD, Political Science & Mr. Mukhtar Shaikh,
Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science.
